Williams welcomes pressure heading into 4th round─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Mon, 07 Sep 2020
The former world number one, Serena Williams, will continue her pursuit for a 24th Grand Slam title this evening when she takes to the court in round four of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
The third seed takes on the 15th seeded, Maria Sakkari.
Speaking after her 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 third-round victory over compatriot, Sloane Stephens, Williams said she welcomes the pressure that comes with her success.
“Sometimes it’s harder than others, every day having Serena on your back. It’s a massive target on your back, for the tour, for the press, for stress.
“But, as Billie Jean King said, pressure is a privilege.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, so I just try to think about how fortunate I am to have been in this position.”
In another women's singles match which should be good, the 2nd seeded Sofia Kenin takes on the 16th seed, Elise Mertens.
In the men's singles, Felix Auger-Aliassime will be up against Dominic Thiem, and Frances Tiafoe will be on the court against Daniil Medvedev.
