Anderson to face Djokovic in second round at SW19─── MORGAN PIEK 08:31 Tue, 29 Jun 2021
The big-serving South African Kevin Anderson is through to the second round of Wimbledon after surviving a big scare.
The 2018 Wimbledon finalist, Anderson, came from a set down to beat Chile's Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in four-sets.
The world number 264 won the first set before Anderson rebounded to secure a 7-6, 6-4, 6-4, 7-6.
Anderson, who is known for his big service game, did impress by serving no less than 41 aces in the match.
Anderson will, however, face the defending champion and world number one, Novak Djokovic, in round two.
Djokovic in his turn also had to come back from a set down to beat the British wild card entry, Jack Draper 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2.
The last time these two met at SW19, Djokovic beat Anderson 6-2, 6-2 and 7-6 in the 2018 final. Since then they have played four times with Djokovic winning all but one of those games.
Meanwhile, Lloyd Harris is on track to reach the 2nd round after leading his game against Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 6-4 before bad light suspended play.
Should the 24-year-old top-ranked South African advance, he will meet the 5th seeded Russian Andrey Rublev in the next round.
