Harris on track to meet Rublev | News Article
Lloyd Harris - ATP

South Africa's Lloyd Harris is in a strong position to advance to round two of Wimbledon being played in London.

The 24-year-old Harris was leading his opening round game against Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania when the game was suspended due to bad light.

The world number 51, Harris, was two sets to love up with 6-4, 6-4, when the match was suspended last night.

Should Harris advance to the next round, he will face the 5th seeded Russian, Andrey Rublev.

Rublev in his turn beat Federico Delbonis from Argentina 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2 to advance to the second round.

Rublev has never advanced further than the second round at Wimbledon, while Harris has never gone further than the first round.

This is, however, only the second time the South African is playing at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. In his first turn in 2019, he was beaten 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2 by the Swiss master, Roger Federer.

Harris and Rublev has only met once before and that was in 2020 in Adelaide, Australia, when the Russian made light work of beating the South African 6-3, 6-0.

Meanwhile, the big-serving South African, Kevin Anderson, will be up against the world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the second round.
