Kruger's singles campaign at Tuks ends─── MORGAN PIEK 07:48 Fri, 01 Apr 2022
Isabella Kruger's run in the Tuks International came to an end yesterday after being beaten in straight sets.
The 16-year-old daughter of the late Free State and Springbok great, Ruben Kruger, was beaten by the Russian sixth seed, Anastasia Tikhonova.
On Wednesday Kruger made headlines when she beat the former world number 29 from Poland, Urszula Radwanska.
Kruger said she made too many mistakes in the second round.
“The match was quite tough today, I played against an experienced player, and she was there every point fighting,” said the youngster.
“Maybe things could have turned out differently had I made a few less unforced errors as one cannot afford to make so many against an experienced player.
“Nevertheless, I am happy I got through the first round and an opportunity to play in this tournament. Now my focus will be on the doubles.”
Isabella and her sister, Zoe, are through to the doubles quarter-finals where they will face Mana Ayukawa of Japan and Joanne Zuger Switzerland.
