The Amanda Coetzer Tennis tournament got underway in Bloemfontein yesterday and it was a good start for the hosts and four-time champions, Hoër Meisieskool Oranje.

Oranje started off their campaign with a solid 6-1 win over Paarl Gymnasium in their opening tie, before beating the four-time champions, Waterkloof 7-0 in their second tie.

Oranje coach, MC Olivier, told OFM Sport that he is proud of the way his team performance on day one against two quality opponents.

“We are very pleased with the way our girls performed - it was a good solid performance against both schools.

“Paarl Gym and Waterkloof are both good teams and we are very proud of how they pulled through there.

“It's always difficult after not having played the tournament for two years. Getting back into the thick of things and playing at home always adds to the pressure.

“We look forward to taking this momentum into Friday and hopefully the semi-finals in the afternoon.”

The 13-time and defending champions, Bloemhof, from Stellenbosch started with a 7-0 win against Menlo Park, while also beat Affies from Pretoria 7-0.

Oranje will play against Rhenish Girls’ High from Stellenbosch on Friday and will be targeting the semi-finals in the afternoon.
