Harris saved by rain at Roland Garros─── MORGAN PIEK 07:39 Tue, 24 May 2022
South Africa’s leading men’s singles player, Lloyd Harris, was saved by the rain during his first-round tie at the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris on Monday
The 26-year-old Harris was up against the veteran Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, and was trailing when rain suspended play for the day.
Gasquet was well in control of the match at 6-1 and 6-2 when rain had the final say on day two.
Weather permitting this match will resume on Tuesday.
Following an outstanding 2021, Harris, hasn't quite found his form this year and this has seen him crashing out of almost every tournament he has played in the first round. This includes the Australian Open in Melbourne in January.
There has been a suggestion that Harris is also carrying a wrist injury and he will undergo surgery following the year's last grand slam, the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
Meanwhile, the defending champion and world number one, Novak Djokovic, got his campaign off to a strong start with a 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0 win against Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan.
