Wimbledon set for record purse─── MORGAN PIEK 14:24 Fri, 10 Jun 2022

The All England Lawn Tennis Club has confirmed that there will be record prize money up for grabs during this year’s edition of Wimbledon.
While there will be no ranking points on offer at this year's grass-court Grand Slam there has been a significant increase in the purse.
The men's and women's singles winners will each receive £2 million or close to R39 million in winnings. This is an increase of close to R6 million for the men’s and women’s singles champs respectively.
Ian Hewitt, Chairman of the All England Club, commented: “From the first round of the Qualifying Competition to the Champions being crowned, this year’s prize money distribution aims to reflect just how important the players are to The Championships as we look to continue to deliver one of the world’s leading sporting events, and with a particularly special tournament ahead of us as we celebrate 100 years of Centre Court on Church Road.”
The 2022 edition of the Wimbledon gets underway on 27 June.
