Centre Court at Wimbledon was silenced on Wednesday with the British number one, Emma Raducanu, being eliminated in the second round.
The reigning US Open champion, Raducanu, was knocked out of the grass-court Grand Slam with a straight-sets defeat to Caroline Garcia of France.
The world number 55 Garcia needed an hour and 26 minutes to claim a 6-3 and 6-3 second round win.
Garcia said her first appearance on the most famous court in tennis is one she will remember. “I was really preparing well for this match," said the 28-year-old French player.
“Emma is a huge player and she is in her home tournament. She has proven that she can do really well on the big stage. I was ready for the match and was pleased with the way that I fought. I went to the net a lot as well.
“I really enjoyed playing on Centre Court. It was my first time and it was very special.”
Meanwhile, the sixth seeded Karolina Pliskova advanced with a 7-6 and 7-5 win over her Czech compatriot, Tereza Martincova.
The 5th seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece beat Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria 6-4, 6-3, while the 15th seeded 2018 champion, Angelique Kerber of Germany advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Magda Linette of Poland.
