Nadal withdraws from Wimbledon─── MORGAN PIEK 07:36 Fri, 08 Jul 2022
It's the men's singles semi-finals at Wimbledon on Friday, but sadly only one of these games will be played.
The defending champion and Grand Slam top-seed, Novak Djokovic, will be up against the South African-born British top-seed, Cameron Norrie.
The second semi-final has been called off as the second seed, Rafael Nadal, was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon.
Nadal picked up an abdominal injury sustained in the quarter-finals and this has ruled him out.
Nadal confirmed his withdrawal and said it wasn’t an easy decision to make.
“Unfortunately as you can imagine I am here because I have to pull out from the tournament," said the 22-time Grand Slam champion.
“As everyone saw yesterday I have been suffering with a pain in the abdominal [area] and something was not okay there. That is confirmed, I have a tear in the muscle."
“It doesn't make sense to go on, even if I try through my career to keep going. It is very tough circumstances but it is obvious if I keep going the injury will be worse and worse.”
Nick Kyrgios of Australia has automatically advanced to the final and will face the winner between Djokovic and Norrie.
