Novak Djokovic - Wimbledon

Novak Djokovic is a seven-time champion at Wimbledon after having beaten Nick Kyrios of Australia in the men’s singles final.

The former world number one from Serbia needed exactly three hours on court to dispatch Kyrios in four-sets.

Djokovic beat Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 7-6 to win a 21st Grand Slam title and to defend his title he won last year.

Following his seventh title at SW19, Djokovic said that being able to win the grass-court Grand Slam following a trying year made it that more special.

“I've lost words for what this tournament and what this trophy means to me. It has always been the most special tournament. It was the one that motivated me to play tennis. Every time this tournament gets more special and meaningful.

“This year has not been like last year. In the first several months of the year I was not at a good place mentally, emotionally.

“Everything that followed Australia has been a huge challenge and obstacle for me to overcome emotionally. It wasn’t that easy to close that chapter. It caused turbulence inside of me and I just had to weather the storm.”

The last winner in the men's singles other than Djokovic was Roger Federer who won the title in 2017. Since then Djokovic has dominated Centre Court by winning every year except in 2020 when Wimbledon wasn't played due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, on Saturday Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan won the women's singles title by beating the third seeded Ons Jabeur of Algeria 3-6, 6-2 and 6-2.
