It has been confirmed that the 21-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, will be playing in the Australian Open next year.

The 9-time champion at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne will have a visa issued to enter Australia after the government stepped in and rescinded his 3-year ban.

The Serbian former world number one was banned from entering the country following his controversial deportation in January on the eve of the start of the Australian Open.

The boss of Tennis Australia, Craig Tiley, said he is confident that Djokovic would play in next year's first Grand Slam.

“I know Novak wants to come and play and to get back to competing. He loves Australia and it's where he's had the best success.”

In 2022, Djokovic, only played at Wimbledon and in the French Open as he was denied entry into the USA and Australia. This was due to Djokovic refusing to disclose this Covid-19 vaccination status.

At Wimbledon Djokovic beat Nick Kyrgios 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 7-6, while at the French Open het lost 2-6, 6-4, 2-6 and 7-6 to Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
