The year's first Grand Slam got underway on Monday morning and the 25-year-old Harris made a big statement by beating the 17th ranked, Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in five-sets.

Harris was well on his way to breeze into the second round before he slipped in the third set. Musetti fought back to win the third and fourth sets, before Harris managed to seal the deal in the fifth set by winning the tie-breaker 10-4.

Harris, who was is playing in a Grand Slam for the first time since undergoing surgery to his wrist needed 3 hours and 49 minutes on court to claim a 6-4, 6-1, 6-7, 2-6 and 7-6 victory.

Harris will face the 73rd ranked Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in the 2nd round on Wednesday.

The last time Harris played in a Grand Slam was during the 2022 French Open in Paris when he got knocked out in the first round with straight-sets defeat to Richard Gasquet of France.
