Djokovic set for welcome US Open return─── MORGAN PIEK 14:33 Tue, 02 May 2023
The world number one, Novak Djokovic, will be making a welcome return to the US Open later in the year.
The US government will end their strict Covid-19 vaccination requirements for international travellers next week. This is set to take place on 11 May 2023.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the White House.
“Today, we are announcing that the administration will end the Covid-19 vaccine requirements for federal employees, federal contractors, and international air travellers at the end of May 11, the same day that the Covid-19 public health emergency ends.”
Djokovic missed the 2022 Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows due to his vaccination status. Because of this Djokovic also missed last year's Australian Open in Melbourne.
On his return to the Australian Open earlier in the year, Djokovic won his 22nd Grand Slam title with a 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) win against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the final.
The 35-year-old Serbian star has won three of his 22 Grand Slam titles in New York.
The 2023 US Open is set to get under way on 28 August.
