The 22-year-old Iga Swiatek of Poland has won the women's singles from the French Open at Roland Garros for the third time.
Swiatek, who recently celebrated her 22nd birthday at the clay-court Grand Slam in Paris beat the Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova in three-sets on Saturday afternoon during the final.
Swiatek claimed the championship match 6-2, 5-7 and 6-4 to win the slam for a second year in a row and she now takes her tally up to four Grand Slam titles.
Following the win Swiatek said it was hard to describe her feelings as she reaffirmed her number one status in women’s singles tennis.
“I don't know what I felt,” said Swiatek in the post-match press conference.
“It's hard to describe, but there is a lot of happiness. I suddenly felt tired after these three weeks.
“Maybe my matches weren't physically exhausting, but it's pretty hard to kind of keep your focus for these almost three weeks.
“Also the whole clay court swing - since Stuttgart I haven't been home. So I'm happy that I finished the whole clay court swing so well, and that I kind of survived.
“I guess I'm never going to kind of doubt my strength again maybe because of that.”
On Sunday afternoon the 22-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, of Serbia will face Casper Ruud of Norway in the final of the men’s singles. This match is scheduled to get underway at approximately 14:30.
