Lloyd Harris - AELTC Joel Marklund

South Africa's Lloyd Harris has been knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round after days of waiting to get onto the court due to several rain delays.

The 26-year-old was meant to face Grégoire Barrère of France on Monday already, however, due to the persistent rain in London this match only got underway yesterday.

Barrère beat Harris in four-sets to advance to the second round with a 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 and 6-3 victory.

While Harris was knocked out of the gentlemen’s singles, he will be in action in the doubles this afternoon with his American partner, Robert Galloway.

The pair will face Marcos Giron and Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, with this doubles match getting underway at approximately 12:00.

Meanwhile, as the rain continued to wreak havoc at this year's Wimbledon, a handful of first and second round matches were completed.

In the ladies singles the world number one Iga Swiatek advanced to the third round with a 6-2 and 6-0 win over Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain.

While the 11th seeded Daria Kasatkina of Russia beat Britain's Jodie Burrage 6-0 and 6-2 and the 9th seeded Petra Kvitova beat Jasmine Paolini of Italy 6-4, 6-7 and 6-1.

In the gentlemen's singles the champions Novak Djokovic beat Jordan Thompson of Australia 6-3, 7-6 and 7-5, while the third seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia beat Britain's Arthur Fery 7-6, 6-4 and 6-3.
