Note to podcast interview: It has since been brought to our attention that this is not the very first journey of its kind being undertaken on the Orange River. In 2009, Robert Wilson ‘single-handed & unassisted’ paddled the Orange from source to sea in 96 days, after spending 18 days in Upington whilst flood waters made the Augrabies Gorge impossible. After that, he abseiled into the gorge not far from the foot of the falls, to complete the trip to Alexander Bay on the SA side. Read more about it here.
