Your Early Morning - (video) Why do animals make different sounds in different languages? | News Article

Finally learn why an English duck can quack and a Japanese one makes gag gag’s! This is really pretty cool!!!

Although all animals all over the world sound the same, but why is it that different languages think animals make different sounds? It’s not like they speak different languages; they make the same noises even if they’re different countries!

So why do animals make different sounds in different languages? Well it’s due to the fact that we’re giving names to the sounds that animals make in the construct of language, not totally mimicking what they’re saying (different languages have different rules and some languages have more versatile phrasing). This is also the reason why a duck can quack in English, gag gag in Japanese, coin coin in French, kyra kyra in Russian, and so on.

To learn more about why different languages think animals make different sounds, be sure to watch the video below! In which Arika Okrent explains why we don’t use the same words for animal sounds in every language.
