Everybody seems to have a plan for fixing the things that break in our lives, our communities and the world around us – a world that Louis Armstrong keeps insisting is, indeed, a wonderful one. Does it start with noticing the crack, recognising the person on the other side of it, and deciding what to do next? The Japanese art of using gold to repair broken pottery inspired Kintsugi: a devised production by the third-year Theatre Making students of the UFS Drama department. Bringing together physical theatre, movement, music, sound, objects, invented rituals, and different languages, the performers invite audiences into an energetic and playful “elsewhere” that looks suspiciously similar to our own. Come and see for yourself.
