Born in Bloemfontein on 13 April 1988, Enriko also lived in Pretoria and Johannesburg before returning to Central South Africa. This University of the Free State (UFS) graduate’s journey with radio already began as a young lad, when he realised that he felt less alone when he tuned in to the radio. It was also then when he knew he wanted to be that voice for someone else. So armed with a tape recorder he began to make his own mock broadcasts at 12 years old.
During his time at UFS, he spent time at Kovsie FM as a newsreader, in the graveyard shift, the dedication show, chart show, weekend breakfast, afternoon drive and eventually a breakfast show called “Horisontaal”. It was also during this time that he joined the OFM Street Squad and became a familiar voice on OFM. Enriko then produced the afternoon drive show for Martin van der Merwe before moving in to his own slots on the Global Top 30 and The Trend. He now moves into the lunch time slot on weekdays.
His favourite thing about radio is that it is live, personal and authentic and he uses his versatility to get the best out of the medium. Enriko is truly a radio fanatic.
When he is not behind the mic, Enriko loves spending time with his wife and son, listening to music, exploring the hidden gems of Central South Africa. He also enjoys colouring, philosophy, memes, gardening, skateboarding, dirt bikes, learning new skills and calls himself a recovering Youtube addict.
His favourite quote is from Nelson Henderson, who said: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.”
Catch Enriko on At Lunch, weekdays, 12:00 – 15:00, and on The Real Good Weekend featuring the Central SA Top 30, Saturdays, 09:00 – 12:00.
