Hilton Botha removed from Oscar murder case─── 17:10 Thu, 21 Feb 2013
Johannesburg - National police commissioner, Rhia Phiyega has just announced that the investigating officer in the Oscar Pistorius murder case, Hilton Botha, is being replaced by a provincial investigating team led by LT General Vinesh Moonoo, who will oversee the police's murder investigation.
Phiyega says they only yesterday became aware of the fact that Botha is facing seven counts of attempted murder.
Earlier today Pistorius's bail application was postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court to tomorrow for further argument. The court heard prosecutor Gerrie Nel submitting it wasn't a coincidence that the people who gave statements following Reeva Steenkamp's death said they heard screams and arguments.
He said it was also not disputed that Pistorius discharged a gun at Tashas restaurant in Johannesburg and "somebody else took the blame". Nel said "this is the real person we are dealing with here,". Nel was arguing there were no exceptional circumstances for Magistrate Desmond Nair to grant Pistorius bail.
The application will continue at 10:00.
