Best childhood memory?
As a child I was very fond of playing outdoors and usually ended up in a tree singing to the whole neighbourhood, on a bicycle or playing house in the flower beds with my sister. As long as we used our imaginations – we were allowed to do whatever we wanted outside. Some of my favourite memories were during December holidays camping with my family, late night braai’s singing along to my dad’s favourite songs which included Elton John, the Beatles and Don Mclean, to name a few. Going on holiday adventures with my parents and sister included anything from fishing on the side of a tidal pool, being dragged behind our small Suzuki 4 x4 in a sand-ski or clinging to a tent in the middle of a storm.
The proudest moment of your life?
I received my Masters Degree in Disaster Management and Development Communication in 2011 from the North West Universtiy Potchefstroom campus and although that was my greatest academic achievement nothing made me feel prouder than knowing my family was sitting in the auditorium cheering for me. That night I surprised my father with a hard copy of my Masters dissertation, which no one knew was printed and bound at that stage – seeing the tears of pride on his face is a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Name one vice
Soft toys – they’re so fluffy!!!!!!!!!
What scares you?
When I see how everything around us is getting more expensive and knowing that as much as I need to spend my money wisely and relook my budget every month – there are others who are really suffering and for them its even worse.
Dogs or cats?
Dogs – I have two Border Collies, Rocky and Lucy and grew up with dogs as a child.
What makes you laugh?
I laugh easily and often find myself giggling about the smallest things. Thinking back to some great times with family and friends and something crazy happened always gets me in stitches. But most often – I laugh at myself. I do silly things that no one else sees but it makes me smile all day. Oh and Trevor Noah makes me laugh.
What is the most valuable thing radio has taught you?
By being myself people will be able to associate with who I am and they will find that radio does reflect their lives as much as it reflects mine. You should never think that no one is listening!
Death row meal?
Cheese Spätzle is my favourite meal. I grew fond of it living in Berlin as an exchange student and although I can make it – mine is just never the same! (Spätzle is a type of egg noodle of soft texture served as a traditional German meal – often served with cheese and onion)
Biggest mistake?
That I never finished learning to read music notes and play the piano. I always wanted to play piano but never completed my classes. I suppose it's never too late.
The country (but SA) you would like to live in.
I lived in Berlin, Germany for a year as an exchange student and would love to return to work there but not on a permanent basis. The European lifestyle is something that you either love or hate and I fell in love with the city. But even after 12 months in Germany and travelling to many other countries – South Africa remains my home as my family is too important to me as well as the lifestyle we live in SA.
