Bloemfontein - The University of the Free State has become the first manufacturer of eye tracking devices on the continent.
The university’s Department of Computer Science and Informatics says after two years of development work it has developed an eye tracker at a fraction of the cost of imported alternatives.
Team leader, professor Pieter Blignaut says it costs around half-a-million rand to import eye tracker apparatus.
He says the device has numerous applications, ranging from marketing analysis to radiography to assisting disabled people to interact with the world.
He says full working prototypes are already available which people can try on a trial basis and provide feedback.
