Soweto – This morning in the first match of the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day the South Africa Legends lost a thrilling and entertaining match against the Italy Legends. Despite going down 2 – 0 the Azzuri, South Africa showed a huge amount of class that made the various players in the teams’ the legends they are in South Africa.

Former Bafana and Bloemfontein Celtic striker Shaun Bartlett told Ofm Sport it was great catching up with some of his former team-mates for old times’ sake. Barlett had South Africa’s best chance to get onto the scoreboard.

Despite being big names, both literally and figuratively speaking players such as Mark Fish and legendary South African captain Lucas Radebe could easily don the yellow and green Bafana Bafana kits any day and still leave a lasting impact.

One of the highlights of the match was when Jomo Sono touched the ball, the smallish, yet vocal crowd were on their feet cheering. It’s “goose bump moments” such as these which make one truly proud of being a South African.

The scorers for Italy were Roberto Galia in the 21st minute and Alessandro Bianchi in the 54th minute.
