Brakpan child murder case postoned─── 12:18 Mon, 30 Dec 2013
Johannesburg - The case against a man accused of murdering his four-year-old niece in Brakpan has been postponed to 7 January next year.
The 23-year-old appeared in the Brakpan Magistrate's Court this morning in connection with the murder of Jasmine Pretorius.
Police had to deploy extra officers after angry community members pelted a police nyala believed to be transporting the suspect with rubble.
They then tried to force their way into the armed vehicle.
Pretorius, who was living with her mother, was picked up by her father on Friday to spend the weekend with him in Brakpan.
She was reported missing on Saturday.
Volunteers helped search for her and her picture was widely circulated on social media.
Her body was later found beneath a bed in her father's house.
Police will conduct a post-mortem to determine if she was raped or sexually assaulted.
They suspect she could have been strangled or smothered.
