Koffiefontein police officer Vuyani March laid to rest─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 10:08 Sat, 19 Jan 2019
The funeral service of the late police officer, Vuyani March, who died in the line of duty at a farm this past week, is taking place in Koffiefontein in the Free State on Saturday.
The minister of police, Bheki Cele, attended the memorial service that was held on Januray 17. In a speech at the memorial service, Cele stated that the attack on the police officer had nothing to do with race.
OFM News previously reported that March was shot in the head and died on the scene last week while he and a few other police officers were attending to an incident at the Dassiekop farm outside of town. This is according to the provincial police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, who said that during a patrol, police received a tip-off regarding a suspicious vehicle on the Dassieskop Farm.
Upon further investigation, police then found that the vehicle belonged to 36-year-old Koen Badenhorst, a neighbouring farmer who had on a previous occasion allegedly threatened 60-year-old Paul Nel, who was the owner of the said farm where his vehicle was spotted.
