IEC NC to beef up security in Barkly West | News Article

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa in the Northern Cape says it is preparing to deploy security and members of the South African Police Services to an area in Barkly West.

This is according to the Commission's Maruping Wildebees, who says that this comes after a small group today indicated at special voting stations that they would not be allowing residents of Hoplam, an area in the town, to vote tomorrow. OFM News' Pulane Choane reports that apart from this incident, no other incidents have been reported.

Maruping says despite the warning from the irate residents of Hoplam, proceedings for special voters in the town have thus far been going relatively well and the IEC in the province has noted the warning from the residents and will prepare accordingly.

He also added that he anticipates that tomorrow's general elections will go fairly well and does not expect any serious glitches as all systems are in place to ensure they run smoothly.
