Opposition raises concerns over #Election2019 in FS | News Article

Opposition parties in the Free State raise concerns over stations that allegedly opened late in the areas of Bloemfontein, Kestell and Qwaqwa.

DA provincial leader, Patricia Kopane, told OFM News it is concerning that some stations were without ballot papers this morning due to the late delivery by the IEC and that there are power cuts being experienced in many parts of Bloemfontein.

Kopane told OFM News that some stations in the areas of Universitas and Pellissier, where she cast her vote in Bloemfontein, have long queues with voters expected to brave the cold, rainy weather, while the IEC does not seem to be doing much about the shortage of IEC equipment such as scanners.

The Newly formed party led by Patricia de Lille, GOOD, added that it is also concerned about the number of voting stations that did not open on time and the protests that erupted in the town of Marquard earlier today.

The IEC’s Mmabatho Rasengane has, however, told OFM News that elections are proceeding in Marquard following the protests that erupted earlier. She says more police officers have been deployed and that all is running smoothly.

She added that the province might, however, experience a low voter turnout due to unfavourable weather conditions, but she is hopeful the number will soon increase.
