She was arrested following post mortems after the children’s deaths on Wednesday 5 August 2020, which indicated that the victims were poisoned, according to the police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh. 

The accused allegedly told the police that she took the children to a local hospital after they became ill. They were both declared dead on arrival. Consequent to the post mortem results, the initial inquest docket was changed to two counts of murder. The mother was questioned and she ultimately admitted to poisoning her children.

The North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, appeals to the public to protect the vulnerable in society, namely women and children, from harm. He further encourages a peaceful resolution of conflict and other challenges, including seeking assistance from professionals such as social workers.
