Violent protest rocking Hoopstad, Bultfontein─── CATHY DLODLO 14:53 Thu, 08 Oct 2020

A violent service delivery protest is rocking the Tswelopele Local Municipality – that includes Hoopstad and Bultfontein in the Free State.
OFM News spoke to the speaker of the municipal council, Motshabinyana Raseu, who said she was in the process of trying to calm community members down.
She could not at the time respond to questions about yesterday’s council meeting. OFM News reported that the mayor, Frans Matsholo, was saved from a motion of no confidence with one vote during the meeting. Raseu presided over the meeting and said she would comment on a later stage.
DA councillor Moshe Snyer says yesterday's motion of no confidence followed several complaints about the lack of service delivery.
Spokesperson for the police, Motantsi Makhele, confirmed that protest has turned violent and that a truck was set alight. He said the police is monitoring the situation.
