NC MEC says 'men can learn from animals' | News Article

The MEC for Social Development in the Northern Cape, Nontobeko Vilakazi, says men can learn from animals when it comes to protecting their female counterparts.

She says it's an insult to animals to say men who beat and kill women are animals, as male animals never beat their female counterparts. Vilakazi was speaking at an occasion to mark the approaching end of 16 Days of Activism campaign for No Violence against Women and Children in Calvinia on Sunday. The campaign takes place annually from 25 November to 10 December.

Meanwhile, the minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, used the occasion to challenge young people to do something about gender-based violence. She says the youth of 1976 played their part to end apartheid, so the youth of 2020 must end gender-based violence (GBV).

The 16 Days of Activism campaign for no violence against women and children forms the centre point of the government’s comprehensive 365 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children as gender-based violence in South Africa has been declared a national concern.
