Residents of Lerato Park in Kimberley have come out in their numbers to cast their votes in the 2021 Local Government Elections.

Many residents, old and young, have formed a long queue in anticipation to make their mark.

Amongst those who came to cast their votes, is Robert Williams who is celebrating his 60th birthday on election day. He told OFM News he was thrilled with the idea of casting his vote whilst also celebrating his birthday. He says he is voting today with the hope that service delivery will improve, and that it will be his gift to his children.

Earlier there was a disagreement between residents and IEC officials after a complaint from other residents that some may have skipped the queue in an attempt to vote first. But the disagreement was quickly resolved after an intervention from the police who were called to the scene.

It is expected that 623 000 registered voters will cast their votes in the Northern Cape on Monday at 728 voting stations.

Earlier, OFM News reported that the Witdam Voting Station in Ward 4, Galeshewe, was among the first to open its doors to kick-start these much anticipated local government elections. One of the early birds at the voting station and a resident of Galeshewe, Sandiseni Sithole, says he hopes that things can only get better from now on. The Witdam Voting Station in Ward 4, Galeshewe, was among the first to open its doors to kick-start these much anticipated municipal elections.

The IEC in the province  told OFM News that it is upbeat about managing smooth and peaceful 2021 Local Government Elections.

Whilst other municipalities across the country are planning security for any possible disruptions, municipalities in the Northern Cape are relaxed and hope that residents will turn out in their numbers to cast their votes.
