#Coronavirus: Estimated 200 South Africans stranded in China─── 07:09 Thu, 04 Jun 2020
Around two hundred South Africans are reportedly stuck in China and are awaiting assistance from government to get back home.
It is believed the large group has been stuck in China for over two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Both the embassy and Dirco are keeping in touch with each other and we are discussing a possible way to try and get the students back.
"We have also received requests from the local Chinese community and they say they want to travel back to China and we must find a way to combine the needs of each other and meet the demands," said Acting Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Li Nan.
Last month, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, reported that more than 5,000 South Africans were repatriated from overseas since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown.
