Five arrested for truck hijacking at Harrismith─── 12:33 Sat, 03 May 2014
Harrismith - Five men, who are charged with hijacking a truck near Harrismith in the Eastern Free State, will appear in court again on 9 May after their case was postponed Friday.
Early on Wednesday morning, the truck driver, travelling from Durban to Beitbridge to transport vehicles, stopped at Harrismith to refuel.
He was confronted by two of the suspects who were armed and smashed one of the truck's windows.
They demanded money, bound him with cable ties and loaded him onto the bed of the truck.
The robbers got off the truck at Vrede and the driver managed to push the panic button.
Upon arrival police arrested two of the suspects and three others upon further investigation.
On 2 May the five suspects, Leremi Vilakazi (23), Freddie Monyai (42), Mike Nyoni (35), Takemore Chikonero (30) and Cyril Zulu (27) appeared before the Harrismith Magistrate on charges of armed robbery.
The case has been postponed to 9 May 2014 for formal bail application.
