Five killed in Mpumalanga crash─── 08:11 Sun, 18 May 2014
Five people have been killed and seven injured in a collision involving an army truck and a light delivery vehicle in Mpumalanga, the Mpumalanga community safety department said on Sunday.
Spokesman Joseph Mabuza, in a statement, said a light delivery vehicle rammed into the rear of a military truck on the N2 between Pongola and Piet Ritief on Saturday.
"Five of the deceased were occupants in an LDV [light delivery vehicle]. Three of the four people who sustained serious injuries were occupants in an LDV while the fourth person was from [the] truck," he said.
The driver of the LDV died in the accident.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the LDV was overtaking on a barrier line and collided with the rear of the military truck," he said.
The injured were taken to hospital for further treatment.
