Action to be taken against Ventersdorp ANC councillors

───   REFILWE REFILWE 13:10 Tue, 20 Jan 2015

Ventersdorp - The ANC in North West say there will be action taken against all its Ventersdorp Municipality councillors for allegedly ousting their own mayor.

This after seven ANC councillors suspended Mayor Cecelia Phoyane and elected Trevor Motshabi as the new mayor.

Provincial spokesperson Oupa Matla says they're expecting feedback from ANC Provincial Executive members based at Ventersdorp this week whereafter drastics measures will be taken. Matla says the ANC was not aware of any infighting among their members.

Media reports surfaced last week that the municipality is currently run by two mayors and two municipal managers which resulted in confusion and alleged chaos.

North West Local Government and Human Settlements MEC Collen Maine overruled the resolution of council during his visit at Ventersdorp last Wednesday and reinstated Cecelia Phoyane as mayor and Director of Community Services Bojelo Mosepele as acting municipal manager.

Joel Makade was suspended as municipal manager by Phoyane last October, but was reinstated by council last December.
