The Cheetahs remain optimistic─── MORGAN PIEK 13:12 Tue, 26 May 2020

The Toyota Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, has been consulting with the Super Rugby coaches and the Springbok coach, Jacques Nienaber, in connection with a return to team training sessions.
SA Rugby will be consulting with the government in order for the respective teams to resume training during level three of the national lockdown.
Fourie told OFM Sport they are ready to train in smaller groups and are hoping for some good news by the end of the week.
“We are still awaiting news on what we are allowed to do and what we aren’t.
“We are itching to go and would like to train in small groups, even if its groups of five players.
“I had a planning session on Monday with the new trainer (André Smith) and we are ready to go, but we need the go-ahead of the government and SA Rugby.
“I am trying to find out from everyone else. I contacted all of the Super Rugby coaches and Jacques Nienaber of the Springboks as well, but nobody can tell me at the moment.
“Our team doctor (Dr Nicolas Theron) has also been in contact with all of the other team doctors, so hopefully we will get some positive news before the end of the week.
“Until then we will resume with the one-on-one training and everyone will stick to their aerobic fitness workouts.”
While the teams might be able to start training soon, returning to play will be quite a long way off, as at least a month will be required to work up to match fitness and intensity.
As it stands at this point in time, no sporting events will be permitted until the country reaches level 1 of the lockdown.
