Bloemfontein - Mangaung Metro's deputy executive mayor, Connie Rampai, has died in a fatal accident early Saturday morning.
Metro spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, confirmed that the incident occurred on the N1 between Winburg and Verkeerdevlei.
Two vehicles were involved in the accident - Rampai’s SUV and a truck. Khedama said Rampai was on her way back to Bloemfontein after an official business meetingin Johannesburg.
Khedama expressed his condolences to the family and said the city has lost a humble and thoughtful leader in Rampai.
He added the city will miss the contributions she had made to the city and the province.
Rampai was also a provincial executive member (PEC) of the ANC in the Free State.
Khedama said further details will be released after the city has consulted with the family and the provincial leadership.
