She made this known when she tabled the Agriculture Department’s budget for this financial year.

She added that Agriculture contributes 2,9% to the North West province's economy and has been declared a critical industry throughout the country.

The MEC says due to the Covid-19 pandemic, food production value chains are operational, albeit not at optimal levels, which is causing bottlenecks and blockages that will lead to product losses. Constraints on the movement of labourers, especially seasonal and migrant workers will lead to increased automation and mechanisation. In South Africa, in particular our province, this will be a major support in the wheel of the government's ambition to increase employment in agriculture and agro-processing with a million jobs by 2030.
