The province's Agriculture MEC, Desbo Mohono, elaborates on the programme and the goals the department have for youth farmers.

See PODCAST below

Mohono says that the department saw it fit to tap into their reserves so as to improve the herds of their young farmers. “We all know that the price of bulls are exorbitant and our people, especially young farmers, throughout our full district cannot afford them,” adds Mohono. She says that this is the primary reason for the gifting of the bulls to young farmers.

The significance of these bulls will not only supply half of their offspring genes but this supply will be advantageous for the young farmers for many years to come, asserts Mohono.

“Each and every bull has its own DNA history and most importantly their own performance score. Their bloodline, and the way in which bloodlines work in harmony, are very important factors that were considered when selecting them,” adds Mohono.

She makes it known that the build and figure of the bulls will serve a great purpose towards the objectives of each farmer which should improve profit margins, reproduction, as well as the demand for future genetic improvement.

She goes on to say “I believe that two years from now we will see their offspring. In agriculture, we can collectively play a pivotal role in the championing of transformation in the country.”

Mohono concludes by saying that the youth should take full advantage of the opportunities and resources at their disposal. They should invest and apply themselves.
