What's new in Farmer’s Weekly? | News Article

In our Friday insert, only on OFM News' Agri Hour, Elsabé Richard speaks to the editor of Farmer’s Weekly, Denene Erasmus, about the latest news in the agricultural industry covered in the magazine and on its website...

See PODCAST below

The 5 November issue of Farmer’s Weekly, which will be on shelves from 29 October, features an article that focuses on the developments within the Milk Producers Organisation (MPO). Erasmus says that the organisation recently went through a restructuring process which has now finally been concluded. She adds this restructuring process has resulted in the MPO decreasing its workforce by about 60%.

The magazine previously reported that in May this year, the MPO’s board of directors embarked on what they called a strategic and structural reform process in the organisation. Part of this process included the suspension of the then CEO, Chris van Dyk. Erasmus says that a new CEO has, however, not been appointed yet.

Furthermore, the magazine also takes a look at some important events that took place recently. One of these events is Agri SA’s annual congress. Erasmus says that this issue of the magazine shares, amongst others, the message of the outgoing president, Pierre Vercueil, who warned that the immigration of farmers out of South Africa was resulting in a loss of knowledge and expertise that the industry cannot afford.

Also, another story takes a look at the legal challenges that Eskom and possibly Transnet are facing after the devastating veldfires that recently wreaked havoc in the Free State, Northern Cape, and North West.
