Being part of the agricultural sector can mean that you’ll experience highs and lows, coupled with instances of great uncertainty.
Theo Vorster, CEO of Galileo Capital, who led a panel discussion during Agri SA’s year congress last year, said it is important that farmers find comfort in uncertainty and embrace it.
He says that when being part of the agricultural sector, one needs to accept that uncertainty is part of life and definitely part of the sector. Vorster drew inspiration from a speech by the late André P. Brink titled ‘The joy of uncertainty'.
Vorster emphasises the importance of not only accepting uncertainty, but also finding comfort in it. “Think about it [in this way]… when you plant a new tree on your farm, when you design a dam, and when you put maize pits in the ground - there is a joy in the uncertainty of the outcome…”
