Water problems continue in #BloemWaterCrisis | News Article

Water problems in Bloemfontein continue with some residents in the northern parts of the city who have no water this morning, while others experience low water pressure.

This comes after residents in the southern part of the city had no water since Tuesday last week. A DA ward councillor and water expert, Rossouw Botes, says Bloemwater informed him yesterday that the burst of the Welbedacht Main Pipeline about 103km from the Brandkop Reservoir on Saturday afternoon have been repaired and water supply will be restored soon. This part of the pipeline provides water to the southern part of Bloemfontein.

He says Bloemwater gave its assurance the pipeline would have been filled with water starting at 21:00 last night. Botes early this morning said it’s still unclear if water supply has been restored. Water problems started on Tuesday when the metro did planned maintenance work to a part of the pipeline in Bloemfontein near the Brandkop Reservoir. It affected water supply to the southern parts of the city. While doing this, a leakage on the pipeline was discovered and repaired which left residents without water until Thursday.

The pipeline would have been filled with water on Friday and Saturday, but the pipeline burst occurred outside the city. Botes says the cause of the water problems this morning in parts of the northern suburbs that had water over the weekend, is unknown. He says, however, the cause of the water problems in the northern part of the city this morning is unknown. The only information available at this stage is that the Naval Hill reservoir is only 6% full while the Arboretum Reservoir is only 9% full.

Fichardt Park, Fauna, Uitsig, Pellissier, Lourier Park, Bloemdal, Ferreira, Kwaggafontein, and other areas in the southern parts of the city were affected since last week.

Water tanks were made available at the Spitskop Fruit Lovers Market, Fichardt Park Library, Lourier Park Primary School, the Fauna Engen Garage, Fleurdal Mall, Pellisier Engen Garage, the Uitsig Victory Bottle Store (General Brand Street).
