#OFMBusinessHour: Innovation needed to counter SA’s youth unemployment─── 20:41 Tue, 07 Sep 2021
We need new ideas and innovative methods to get South Africa’s unemployed youth into the job market.
These are the words of the acting co-Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Leanne Emery, who was speaking to the OFM Business Hour regarding the country’s 34,4% unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2021. The conversation with Emery comes as Stats SA announced that the economy expanded by 1.2% in the second quarter of 2021 with the transport, agriculture and communication industries contributing significantly to this growth. The expansion is based on a new reporting methodology adopted by Stats SA, which no longer reports GDP growth on a seasonally adjusted annualised basis and uses 2015 as its base year for calculations.
