#OFMBusinessHour - Sars uses third parties to clamp down on non-compliant taxpayers─── 18:46 Thu, 07 Oct 2021
The South African Revenue Service (Sars) is determined to raise enough taxes to reach the country’s expenditure needs and aim to make use of third parties to do so.
This is according to ENS Africa Director, Mansoor Parker, who was unpacking the country’s tax gap on the OFM Business Hour following the 2021 tax indaba which took place between 20 and 22 September and focused heavily on said matter. Sars, like other revenue services worldwide, is seeing a significant disparity between the amounts of tax paid to it as opposed to the amounts that ought to have been paid to it a.k.a. the estimated revenue from taxpayers. This is what is known as the tax gap.
