Would shorter work weeks work? | News Article

The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic has brought this debate to the forefront once more...

Already in 1930, economist John Maynard Keynes speculated about 15-hour workweeks, and in 2007, entrepreneur Timothy Ferriss published his best-seller, The 4-Hour Workweek. Recently, Spain also agreed to a three-year pilot that will test a 32-hour workweek without cutting employee pay.

Now, RAiN, a professional services company, with offices in Bloemfontein, Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp, Mossel Bay and Johannesburg, has become the first auditing firm to put this to the test in South Africa.

OFM Content Editor, Elzette Boucher-Krüger, spoke to audit manager, Zelda Standing, to find out more about shorter work weeks. Listen here:

With their array of clients both within the private and public sectors, RAiN aims to provide bespoke services to clients that surpass the expectation of any. They thrive on ensuring that their people are well taken care of but still delivering the same care and quality to all of their clients, big or small.

To give context to this, RAiN has recently embarked on the 4-day work week that has taken the rest of the world by storm, and as such, have offered their staff the much-needed break they need to take care of themselves and their loved one’s – or even just to go and get their tyres changed! RAiN delivers more to clients while giving more to their staff. Many may question whether or not this is a bold or dangerous move, but RAiN says why not give their people what they want—happy staff, happy life.

RAiN likes to think of itself as innovative, and would like to be seen as just that and not taking from others, but instead setting the tone for others to follow! Their commitment is to continuously improve, change and challenge the norm to be able to always stay ahead of the curve and to make an impact that changes the industry for the better. At RAiN, they don’t just imagine. They do!
