#OFMBusinessHour: Understanding the ESG movement─── 18:34 Sun, 21 Aug 2022
James Brand, a senior associate in the Natural Resources and Environment department at ENS Africa explains what environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials are on the OFM Business Hour.
Brand further unpacks the growth of the movement on the African continent and speaks on some of the anticipated regulatory developments in the future that will drive ESG integration.
He says environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations have become a business imperative for investees looking to attract sustainable finance. Investors are using ESG credentials as a means of better understanding material risk in their investments.
Regulatory developments: the transition from ESG as a soft law consideration to a hard law obligation:
Brand says in his article on the ENS Africa website that "this is anticipated both domestically within Africa as its regulatory regime matures, and also from offshore jurisdictions that are Africa’s largest trading partners, such as the European Union, as a result of the progress being made in respect of the European Green Deal".
