Primary Champions game launched in South Africa─── ZENANDE MPAME 13:20 Wed, 24 May 2023
The first-ever Primary Champions game was launched on 24 April and will be running until 25 June 2023.
This 2D online game, which was initially introduced in South Africa, teaches players vital business skills.
It is also intended to provide students with the knowledge and attitude they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.
It is designed to provide a fun and interactive learning experience to learners.
The Primary Champions Young Business Mind game provides students in Grades 4 through to Grade 7 (ages 9 to 13) with an approach to mastering fundamental business skills.
Children may play the game in a fun and engaging way to learn about business and how to be resilient. Teachers can participate and help out by incorporating the game into their lesson plans.
Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge Gaming Officer, Boitumelo Tshabalala, says: “The game offers a range of learning outcomes that contribute to the holistic development of the learners.

They will develop entrepreneurship skills, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving ability, and financial literacy.”
The Allan Gray Foundation has made provision for learners who do not have an internet connection or smartphones to access the game by asking schools that have computer labs to allow learners to use them to participate in the game.
To participate, learners will need to submit a signed parental consent form upon registration.
“When learners open the game they will be prompted to choose an avatar they relate to then they can choose whether they want to have a lemonade stand or a hot dog stand, to test their creativity they will also have a chance to name their stand,” says Tshabalala.
From beginning to end, there are five modules throughout the entire game. The learner must first play the 2D video game in each module, then they must complete a literacy corner, a numeracy corner, and a quiz to evaluate ideas and situations.
Points are awarded to students for passing quizzes and making an effort to make money in the business game.
Learners who participate in the game will get certificates recognising them as Primary Champions.
Awards will also be given to teachers in recognition of their abilities to direct and coordinate the course with their students.
The top nine Primary Schools in the nation that have the highest ratio of registrations to participation and game completion in their school and province will receive a cash price of R30 000 to utilise for the school.
