Eskom operates on outdated model - environmental expert─── 08:10 Sat, 19 Jan 2019
An environmental expert says Eskom is operating on an outdated model that is heavily impacting nature and consumer's pockets.
David Hallowes from NGO Groundwork made presentations at the Durban public hearings into Eskom's application for a 15% electricity tariff hike.
Hallowes says every part of Eskom's operation - from mining to lack of replenishment, to global warming contributions through the burning of coal - kills the environment.
He says while the power giant knows this very well - it still chooses to operate on this model due to heavy investments made in the name of profits.
