Hospital forced to have contingency plans for NC water shut down─── SAZLY HARTZENBERG 15:58 Wed, 23 Jan 2019
The Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital in Kimberley in the Northern Cape is forced to put contingency plans in place as the water shut down continues.
These plans are implemented when the water supply in the city is stopped. The Northern Cape Department of Health spokesperson, Lulu Mxekezo, told OFM News that at the moment the hospital has an underground bulk water tanker that can keep up to 320 000 litres of water.
Mxekezo further explained that there are also bulk water tankers which are filled with municipal water supplies placed in strategic places across the hospital. She further said that the hospital has a clean linen supply to last for one to two days. According to Mxekezo, the hospital will be able to survive the water shutdowns if water is only turned off at night and turned back on during the day.
OFM News previously reported that residents of Kimberley in the Northern Cape can expect to be left without water. This is because the Sol Plaatje Municipality now has to implement stage 5 water restrictions due to the fact that the dam levels are critically low.
The Sol Plaatje municipality encourages residents of Kimberley to use water sparingly. The Sol Plaatje municipality spokesperson, Sello Matsie, told OFM News that the municipality had informed the public in advance of the water restrictions so that they could be prepared.
