Bfn man loses everything in shack fire─── PULANE CHOANE 07:55 Fri, 25 Jan 2019
Thirty-one-year old Vincent Sotyu from Bloemside in Bloemfontein says that he is still trying to make sense of how a fire that ravaged his shack was started in the first place.
The Free State man said the incident took place Thursday night at around 20:30. He said that he was at a shop nearby for just a few minutes and when he returned to his home, he found that it had burnt to the ground, in the process, destroying all his valuable possessions.
The Mangaung Fire and Rescue Department arrived on the scene around 21:30 last night and put out, what initially seemed like a big fire, in a matter of minutes. By 22:00 the department had put out the fire, but while Sotyu said he is grateful that matters could have been worse, he still laments the loss of his valuables such as a mobile phone, laptop, clothing and important documentation such as his identity documents and matric certificates.
Meanwhile, no one was injured in the fire and while the details regarding how the fire started are still sketchy, police are investigating the matter.
